Who is Gavin McClurg?
Born in 1972, Gavin McClurg grew up to become a paragliding pilot, adventurer and offshore sailor. Which makes him a real American eagle. Along with Dave Turner, he pioneered a route over the Alaska Range and completed several expeditions over remote areas across North America. One thing that we absolutely have to know about Gavin McClurg, is that in 2013 he set the free-distance USA foot launch paragliding record at 387 km! He took off from Sun Valley, Idaho.
Quick Facts About Gavin McClurg
2015 - In the adventure documented in the film The Rockies Traverse, Gavin McClurg crosses the Canadian Rockies from McBride, BC, to the US border together with Will Gadd. For this, Gavin was awarded the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year nomination.
July 2015 - McClurg completed the Red Bull X-Alps race (yes, looks like this was his year) finishing in 8th place.
May 5, 2016 – Gavin set out with Dave Turner to traverse the full length (480 miles) of the Alaska Range by foot and paraglider, unsupported! This was the first attempt by a paraglider. He completed his solo after 37 days.
